Hello, and welcome to the tutorials on RMXP's database! I'll do my best to tell you about the database and how to work it, but it's a big thing. Anyway, first things first!

In this tutorial you will learn...

• How to create actors
• What each function does
• How to modify your actor's stats

So, let's jump straight in. Open the database from the 'Tools' menu, or press F9 on your keyboard. This will bring up the database window, with its many tabs at the top. It will be displaying the Actors pane at the moment, so let's begin here.



This is the Actors pane. Here you can change everything to do with the characters in your game, their character graphics, their battler graphics, their stats, their equipped weapons, their class, and (of course) their name. So, to create a new character, go down to the bottom of the window underneath the list of actors where it says 'Change Maximum.' Click that, and then raise the number by one. A new actor tab will show up and when you click on it, a blank actor pane will become available. Now you can start creating your character!



1 - The name of your character.
2 - The class of your character. This effects their position in battle, what can be equipped to them, what skills they learn as they grow levels, and other things like that (I'll do classes and skills later on.)
3 - The level that you character starts at when they join your party. I'll talk about party changes in the events tutorials. Their final level is, well... the level they end up at. The maximum is 99.
4 - This window controls how much experience is needed to grow levels. You can bring up the dialogue box below by clicking the arrow next to the data box.




The basis slider is the initial value - it raises or lowers the general experience needed to gain the next, but keeps the interval between the values the same. The inflation slider controls how big the gaps between the levels are - it raises or lowers the gap between experience needed to gain levels (it's quite hard to explain, but play around with it and you'll get the hang of it).
5 - The graphic for your character that shows in the field, and on the menu. Double click the box to change this.
6 - The grpahic for your character that shows in battle. Double click the box to change this.
7 - These parameters control how much more Maximum HP, Maximum SP, Strength, Dexterity, Agility and Intelligence your character gains with each level they grow.




Double click on the curve graph to change it. You can use the 'Generate Curve' command (shown above) to generate a curve based on how much they have when they begin, how fast they gain it and how much they end with.
8 - The starting weapons for your actor. If you check the 'Fixed' box, the weapon or accessory cannot be changed later on in the game.

So, I've made a character called Darius. He's a hunter, and you can see his stats by looking at the picture below...



It's really easy to create characters once you've got the hang of each of the functions. As with mapping, the key is experimenting! So, let's move onto the next tutorial: Classes.
